The journals and journalists need to focus on their jobs and not let the number of clicks dictate what needs to be covered and how. The advertisers would then decide in which journal to advertise.
The more consistent the funding base, the less need to pursue clicks. However, clicks also indicate the amount of public interest in a story. An interested public is always a necessary part of a journalist sharing news. If a tree falls in the forest, no one hears.
